Coach the Sponsor for the Scale-up

Coach the Sponsor for the Scale-up

In preparation for the Scale-up workshop that signals the end to the current 30-Day Project, it is good to remember what success looks like at the end of the journey.

Success at the end of the 30-Day Project journey

Performance

GBVF-related behaviours in the organisation have improved. OR a GBVF-related practice has changed for the better. Or a GBVF-related policy has been ratified, communicated, and implemented. In short, the next time the GBVF Health Check survey is applied in the organisation, it will score higher in its GBVF maturity index.

Experience

The team’s experience during the 30 days was positive. The team describes the experience as fun and enriching. They will be thinking, ” Why don’t we always work this way?”

Learning

New insights emerged about the organisation and about the GBVF issue the team was working on. Team members feel more knowledgeable and more capable of affecting positive change in the organisation.

Prepare the Sponsor for their role in the Scale-up Workshop

For the first part of the agendawhere the team shares highlights of what they achieved, it would be helpful to suggest some questions the sponsor can ask to give the team an additional opportunity to brag about their achievements. This is especially important if other leaders will be in the room, who may be less familiar with the team’s work.

For the part of the workshop where the team is developing its sustainability recommendations, the Sponsor need to be ready to play an active role and to contribute their own ideas. In fact, you can ask one of the sponsor to facilitate this part of the discussion, which will signal ownership of the follow-up to this. If there is readiness to do this, go over the facilitation guide with the Sponsor, help them practice, and see what support they might need at the session.

For the part related to  Mapping the way forward, the leaders will make some decisions. See the section below on these decisions.

Finally, go over the list of leadership invitees with the Sponsor. Who else needs to come? Who may need special attention at the session? Who may need to be briefed in advance? Assign tasks as needed to ensure visitors are impressed and to maintain a positive energy in the room.

Decisions on the Way Forward

The leaders will make some decisions during the Scale-up Workshop. Discuss with the sponsor the 3 decisions and offer to support them afterwards with action ideas on turning these decisions into action after the workshop.

Based on the decisions made, the Sponsor may continue working with this or new 30-Day Project teams.

The leaders may decide to extend the 30-Day Challenge by a week or two.

The leaders may commit to implementing some of the recommendations of the team on ways to sustain the improvements that were made during the 30-Day Challenge

The leaders may decide on the next GBVF Maturity 30-Day Challenge(s) to get underway
