This could be tricky. But here’s a way to use it as a ‘teachable moment’. It involves some risk. But it is worth trying. You can assure the leaders that they have the option to ask the team to ‘move their goal post up’ when they engage with them at the end of the lift-off workshop. Ask where they, the leaders, would like to see the team set its goal. And note this down. If things go well, the leaders will be pleasantly surprised that the goal set by the team is higher than the goal they had envisioned. This may be a good ‘aha moment’ about trusting the team and those lower in the organisational hierarchy.
